FINAL AR----Themes

Themes
Chp.11-20
Chp.11
Resentment seems to be the running theme in this chapter and the source of jealousy for many people in this town. Fernanda is jealous of the fact that Aurelino and Petra are together and happy. They are always together and not worrying about anything, except Fernanda wants her man back in her life more. Everything with Petra is better and the love he feels for her is stronger than for Fernanda. People also start to believe that the way the acted, such as Colonel and the war, was for nothing. It was just the going back and feeling like there was a sense of resentment in their life with everything. Rebeca begins her life of solitude to preserve everything that is life in her life.

Chp.12
Change begins to happen with the town and all the new things that are coming into Macondo. Colonel Aurelino is about trying to fix every injustice from war. And his goal in life is to fix everything that he did wrong in the first war and now he wants to start a new one. Everything is becoming updated and people are dying, so this all will cause to make something different out of life.

Chp.13
People all seem to be falling into the same trend of solitude and not being bothered with people. Nobody really wants to be bothered with things in life and everyone just kind of pushes it to the side and never deals with it all the way. Even later on in the book, the son begins a life of not socialing with anyone either.

Chp.14
Nobody in this chapter is having good luck and ending up with either a death or another misfortune. For instance, Amaranta and the way that she gets they main she loves paralyzed by a shooting. All the women seem to be having to give up the men they love and the way that they will have to live their life will efiantly be different. Misfortune and bad luck was doomed to them as early as the father being called insane and tied to a tree.

Chp.15
People begin to lie about their lives and the way that they are functioning for everything. Fernanda for instance with baby suppossedly begin found in the river. And the workers at the Banana Factory were decieved into this job and pushed into making it the way they wanted. And the ones who were left on the train were killed and they thought differently as the town.

Chp.16
The theme in this chapter is renewal. It seemed as though when the rain came the people got washed out of all the bad things in life. And then it is as if it was a sign to people to shape up or ship out of life. And things in life were like starting over after the rain had come.

Chp.17
Solitude and lose of being a person.

Chp.18
Sofia leaves the family and really doesn't tell any reasons for doing what they may have. Fernanda abandons her life when she feels she has nothing more to live for. Everyone is living and walking away from other people and not sticking it out for the long run.

Chp.19
INCEST! Need I say more? There is no explaination for all of this nasty stuff.

chp.20
Tragedy for the fact that the whole town gets wiped out and the majority of the main people get killed off. It shouldn't have to be that way for anyone.

She made man after man fall in love with her and everyone who did only ended up getting into trouble. Colonel Aureliano Buendia begins to make threats of going to war again, using his sons as troops.

Chp.13
This chapter is uneventful in many ways. The reader only sees the children of Aureliano Segundo and Fernanda grow up and get older. They each go off to school, Jose Arcadio to go off and become the pope and Meme goes off to school and learn to be a proper lady. Fernanda takes the opportunity of Ursula's sickness to force her lifestyle upon the Buendia family. Aureliano Segundo disagrees with these actions and leaves the house to stay Petra Cotes and competes in eating contests where he begins to think that he is dying. Jose Arcadio Segundo comes to talk to Colonel Aureliano but he continues his life of solitude and his hobby of making gold fish slowly comes to a stop. He soon dies afterwards.

Chp.14
Meme arrives home during the mourning period of her uncle. Meme undergoes tasks such as playing the clavichord for the pleasures of her mom, Fernanda, while she is at home. Shortly after the first morning period, Amaranta dies and the family goes back into morning. But during this period, Meme becomes very close with her father and she and him go out and do a lot of things with each other. Maurcio Babilonia is the man that she falls madly in love with and can't stay away from. Aureliano Segundo got so fat that he could barely tie his shoes. Aureliano Triste made a prediction that Amaranta was going to die before she was suppossed to have. When this happens she has him sneak into the house through a secret way that lets into the bathroom. When the mother finds out about that, she has him shot the next day. When he was shot he was paralyzed for the rest of his life.

Chp.15
Meme’s illegitimate son by Mauricio was brought to the house. Meme is forced to live in the city her mother was born in and has to become a nun there. Aureliano was then locked into the old silver workshop of CAB and begins his life of solitude and quietness. Jose Arcadio Segundo on the other hand is defending his plantation workers because they are getting treated unfairly. The people fixed the rebellions by giving the strikers five minutes to end it and when they didn’t, they were all shot down and put on a train to be thrown in the sea. Jose Arcadio Segundo was the only survivor, but when he woke up on the train, he went into shock. When the train stopped he walked all the way back to the village.

Chp.16
Aureliano Segundo returns to his house for a little bit, but is then stuck at his house when it starts to rain for 5 years. Ursula is growing more senile and talks the kids. They learn from her the many different types of stories. Aureliano Segundo took him in and accepted him and would take him and his younger daughter, Amaranta Ursula, and show them pictures in the encyclopedia. One day Fernanda works her husband to much that he breaks everything that has any value to her, just to try toget her attention and make her enraged. Aureliano went back to Petra and stayed for three months believing that he married “Jonah’s wife”. A.S lost a lot of weight and was beginning to resemble his twin brother again. Aureliano Segundo tries to find the money in gold coins that Úrsula hid in the backyard. Petra begins raffling off animals to bring in a little joy to the town and get more money to repair the damages made by the storms.

Chp.17
Aureliano Segundo ruins everything within their house and Ursula attempts to fix the house up again. She is out of bed for the first time since her daughter's death and finds Jose Arcadio Segundo locked up. He tells her that he doesn't want to come out of here. Ursula had him cleaned and shaved and left him alone with noticing that he has a similar fear to CAB when it involves leaving the room. Unfortunately Ursula dies at 120 years oldas well as Rebeca. Aurelino fears that after Ursula he too will die, so he tries to work to get the money to send Amaranta Ursula to school. His twin Jose Arcadio Segundo is dying and figures out Melaquiades' writings and tells Baby Aureliano to follow through with them. Fernanda didn’t allow Petra to attend the Funeral and when its time to bury the twins, they are mixed up in their graves.

Chp.18
Aureliano found comfort in the room of Melquaides. He was always reading everything so much that he keeps the knowledge everything of the medieval times.Fernanda and Sofia are left to keep up their buisness and make things go no in life. Aureliano talked to Melquiades as well as he gave the boy tips on how to decode the manuscripts. Sofia up and leaves the Buendia family, shortly after Fernanda dies. After the death of Fernanda, Jose Arcadio arrives back at the house and wants to take everything back into his control. Aureliano is banished to his room from the first time Jose Arcadio sees him. Jose Arcadio starts to become friends with little kids in the town, and has them come over all the time. There would be parties thrown with the money that Ursula has left to them and the little kids couldn't get enough of it all.

Chp.19
Amaranta Ursula finally returns with her new husband tied with a leash named Gaston. She came back with spirits that were unbelievably high and wanted live in the town that she thought was so beautiful. Beginning to fix up the house, she threw away a lot of useless things except for the picture of Remedios. Aureliano stayed in the same room and study the manuscripts determined to make them out. Aureliano searched the streets determined to find anyone who remembered his family, but it seemed as if no one knew who they were. Aureliano realized that he had really strong feelings for Amaranta, whom he did not know was his aunt to him. He took refuge in talking with his great- great- grandmother that he wasn’t aware of of having. Amaranta took the leash off her husband believing that he would remain honest and faithful. Aureliano forces himself onto Amaranta who tries to refuse but eventually gives in.

Chp.20
Pilar Ternera dies at the age of approximately between 120 and 145 and is buried sitting in her rocker chair. One by one Aureliano's friends leave, eventually making the town empty and without any inhabitants. He was content with the relationship he had with Amaranta whom he was now involved with. She becomes pregnant with Aureliano's baby and they tell her husband, who is not really upset about it all, pratically telling them that everything is okay and that there is no problems. When Amaranta Ursula gives birth to the baby they notice the pig tail on the baby. It is exactly as people had said that once would happen to someone. She dies due to loss of blood because of child birth and Amaranta and Gaston went their separate ways and she became involved with Aureliano more seriously. When he realizes he left his son somewhere, it’s too late because the baby’s body is carried off by ants. He then shuts himself up to finish translating the scrolls and realizes that on the scrolls is his family's history.

FINAL AR--- Character Development

Character Development
Chp.11-20

Chp.11
Fernanda is the one who changes the most. When she was younger she was sheltered and hid away from the real world. It seemed as though she almost was a hermit and not trying to practice a normal life. And when she gets out for the first time, she sees everything that she doesn't even think could ever really be existing. She is so shocked that after she arrives back home she locks herself up in her room for a very long time. Fernanda changes her views and ways of the world and becomes aware of much of the things going on around her. Aureliano Segundo did a well job at putting both of the things he loves into his life for the good amount of time. Petra Cotes, Aureliano’s Concubine, molded him into her dream guy and never worried about him going to his wife. Ursula became completely blind. Renata Remedios (Meme) was born and was named after her grandmother and late aunt.

Chp.12
The person that changes the most in chapter twelve is Colonel Aureliano Buendia. He suddenly begins to not care about war and all the things that happens from it. And it is a shock because not very many people can just change their mind like that. He begins to show emotions that men usually do not let out and have others see to others. And once you think that he is all out of the ignorant and evil stage he goes right back to it and starts to think against positivity. And I think that he was really never changed, but rather have a show on for others and what they really wanted to see.

Chp.13
Ursula is learning to use her other four senses without her children, learning that she is completely blind. She becomes wiser as she gets older and starts to become aware of things in a newer light because of the lost of her sight. And it causes for her to show to others the things they would probably just skip over or not even worry about.

Chp.14
Meme now acts just like her father. She begins to want to know more about the gender of men. She was once innocent, but now all she is is curious. She even goes so far as to fall into love with someone who once was a boss to her father. And once she found out that he was shot she wasn't upbeat or energetic or happy or wanting to be happy. She changed to someone who was lonely and dying on the inside without ever begin in a coffin. Ursula stays in solitude because of the death daughter Amaranta. Colonel Aureliano Buendia has died.

Chp.15
Jose Arcadio Segundo begins to show a different side of himself and changes a little bit. Jose Arcadio Segundo's changes begins after the fatal massacre and he puts himself up into a ball and doesn't begin to talk much. He reminds the town and mostly me of how the Colonel was before he had died. Aureliano is born and is kept in isolation for almost two years. Fernanda doesn't want the rest of the family to notice him or see him yet.

Chp.16
Aureliano Segundo starts to change into someone who is content in his own life and his ways of doing things. He doesn't realyl want to fight and chooses to be okay with what is happening and is no longer a rebel to always fight for something. Ursula is towards death and Buendia's house is getting old and all ragged looking on the outside.

Chp.17
Ursula fixes up the house and dies without her family ever finding out that she was blind. Aureliano also becomes someone who is only into solitude and the peacefulness of life. He was once wild and all about having fun. He is the one that starts to translate the scrolls of Melquides.

Chp.18
Sofia is sick of the house and decides to leave. Fernanda is now stuck mistreating her husband and then she dies while baby Jose Arcadio starts the family trend of being secluded from the rest of the family in life. It seems that the running theme must have been the way that people don't talk to others or want to be bothered with really living life.

Chp.19
Amaranta Ursula is now a full grown women and not worried about trying to be a little kid at heart. And she is becoming the woman that her mother had always wanted for her to be in life. Aureliano falls in love with Amaranta.

Chp.20
Auerlino just continues on his life and the many changes that have occured. It seems that the whole town has changed and everything is not as it once had been at the beginning of the book or when the author first started the story.

FINAL AR---Magical Realism

Magical Realism Chp. 11-20
Chp.11
Aureliano Segundo sleeps with Petra Cotes so the animals will breed more frequently for them. I find it stupid that just because people are sexually attracted and wanting to be okay with having sex that it means animals are going to have more kids. Triste can break plates by never putting a hand on them at all. The ashes from Wednesday for the 17 kids never even came off and I believe that if that were the case they would have to be magically related to the outcome.

Chp.12
How you ask is it that Remedios ascended to heaven and she was still alive. Well all that red this book are questioning it and wanting to know the same thing. There had to be power in the helping of it all. And what is even funnier is that I honestly found nothing she did any special deed or chore like our Mary the Mother of Jesus had done. There were not many magical realistice movements.

Chp.13
Ursula is remembering people's daily routines and what each of them have to do. In this chapter it seems that is what Ursula lives her life to do for other's goods and needs. However, who is to say what each person in life can handle in their brain! Also when colonel went to go pee out in the yard at the chestnut tree, he got pee all on his father's ghost. The ghost stays there even though the father has passed away for a long time now.

Chp.14
Amaranta sees herself dying, which is not normal. She knew it would come once she finished weaving her shroud and it seemed to be a freaky moment in the book for that. And Amaranta was to take these letters to the other dead ones for them to read and bask in. Who would want to do that?? CREEPY! Also yellow butterflies follow Meme's boyfriend Mauricio Babilonia for a long time.

Chp. 15
The town forgetting what happened when the government went to the plantation and began to kill, is nothing but magical because of the fact that it has occured before this time. Also the heavy rain erasing all traits of what had happened at the plantation. The non-stop raining will cause a flood before it causes them to be cleared of all things at the plantation.

Chp.16
Continuous rain for 5 years is magical because you can't let it rain that long and not die of no foos from flooding or being stuck in your house. Maybe it was sign that they need to change their ways of acting like God did to the people in the Bible. The town is also forgetting more and more by the second. Lastly, Aureliano Segundo is not as able to put himself out there for others to see him as outgoing. Also Ursula predicted her own death, that she knew she was going to die after the rain had passed and personally, I didn't think that you could really do that.

Chp.17
In this chapter Ursula is seeing ghosts of her dead ancestors. She can sit there and talk to them and let them have conversations with her about everything. The Buendias all come to visit her and it seems odd because if you hear someone talking to you, most people would freak out and go insane. However, she doesn't do that. Even though she is getting older like 120, in the last years of her life, you still shouldn't go that crazy to talk to people like that. Also when there was a plague of dead birds in the village, the people found a monster that they blamed the plague on. The plague is able to happen, but not to let the monster be the cause of it or the fact that he wanted it to happen this way. Jose Arcadio Segundo is still stuck in Melaquiades' room after years of sitting and studying.

Chp.18
An aspect of magical realism in this chapter is once again the seeing of a ghost. Melaquides reappearing as a ghost to the baby Auerlino is impossible because of the fact that ghosts don't exist. Aureliano sees the ghost of Melquiades, who talks to him about trying to explain and understand the scrolls. Also Fernanda thought that elves would come into her house and move things around. Elves can't hurt someone who is the normal height compared to them and why would they want to bother you and cause you trouble..you know they have to make toys for Christmas.(lol) The parchments that levitates when the children tries to destroy them.

Chp.19
The fact the Pilar was able to tell Aureliano the way that things were happening somewhere in a distant place. She was able to sense what was going on in his heart as well as the fact the Amaranta Ursula felt the same way as him, with out even speaking to her.

Chp.20
Fernanda’s bones trembled with horror in her grave. I think that it is impossible for bones to move in the grave that is under tons of dirt without some sort of person egging them on. The fact that a family's entire history was predicted and written down 100 years before it even happened is very out of place. How would anyone know what was to happen before it did? Or maybe that could just be the reason that things ended up the way that it was because they didn't want to disprut the way that it was to end up being.

UpDated Journals

March 23, 2007
I am finally getting a grasp on this book and things are finally coming together for me and this project. But I have only one complaint upon this all, which is that the paper that is to be up to 8 pages long, is that I really understand some of the book. However that's not my complaint..my complaint is that I don't understand anything about the themes, but the fact that people like to have incest and go to be alone all the time to do things. I find it to be hard because in turn I need to that paper you been telling us bout. And it has to involve the themes..So maybe if you can like just briefly ease my fears upon the paper by like giving me a little bit more direction as to were to start for it all.

However, this still does mean that I hate this project more and more everyday..
It is horrible and I would have much preferred it earlier in the year and with a different book such as Song of Solomon. Just a comment to that lady that comes in the teacher suit(Ms. Brown). But I still do like this class a little bit more than it was a while ago.

March 29, 2007
I have finally finished the book and really can say that it turned out better than I expected it to be. It really ended up keeping me thinking about all the different things that a society has to go through in their lifetime. He does any awesome job making things interesting and even though the book is still a little off, I can't say that I totally hated every part of it. He really shows to us that the simple decision to go and start a family like this can affect someone else and the rest of a lifetime. Ane even though the Buendias' had rough times, they still came back to each other. And I really admire that fact abou them. Throughout the whole book, Garcia mystifies us and keeps our attention and we never really realize that we are getting so much into it.
And as for this project, I believe that it is coming along just nicely..
Everything is falling into lace for me and making perfect sense now.
I jsut hope that we can relax and enjoy the rest of our year together.. Cause May 16th I out..SUCKAS!

Themes Chp. 7-10
Chp.7
There is also some fatalities for the family and death is hanging heavily on their souls. The ones who fear for the people who did or will die are Ursula and Rebeca. So along with death is the scent of fear for each of the people in thier lives. Solitude of people who once lived a normal live also comes and plagues them with problems to want to go on after what they have lost. Escaping is not something that they are thinking about doing right now.

Chp.8
In the chapter some of the most apparent themes are change and unrequited love. Aureliano Jose is deathly in love with Amaranta, but she won't give it back to him. Amaranta doesn't want his drama anymore or the problem of being with him and he eventually realizes that this won't happen and gives up. He actually changes back the man he was and makes his life of solitude a mission instead of ruining lives.

Active Reading--Week 2 Quotes

Quotes Chp. 7-10
Chp.7
"Don't be clever Buendia," he told him. " That's just a trick to gain more time." (pg. 126)
--- Aurelino is trying not to die and wants to escape it as much as possible. He isn't ready for it and people know it.

"Let's pray to God for his enemies to show him clemency."
--- They never seemed like real religous people and their ways never really stuck out much to me. And whenever they get in trouble do they think he will jsut solve it for them and get rid of all the problems.

Chp.8
"I don't care if they're born as armadillos.." (pg. 149)
--- Aureliano Jose is determined to get it his way and it doesn't matter how he does it. Even if the incest to be with his aunt is wrong, all if it is better if she is just allowed to be with him.

“We’ve lost him forever.” (pg. 159)
--- Ursula cannot say that about her son Colonel Aureliano Buendia, but also about a majority of her other family tree parts. Solitude repeates itself many times and it goes beyond death and leads them more into not wanting to be part of society any longer as a person.

Chp.9
"How strange men are, they spend their lives fighting against priests and then give prayer books as gifts.”( pg. 176)
--- How much of a hyprocrite is that? They continue to not understand how everything must work together and hand in hand. No one knows which way to go and make a good decision about life or anything else.

"There are some corrupt Christians who do their business with female donkeys."
--- I can't really get past trying to find the meaning behind it all and the way that it makes sense. I personally think that Jose Arcadio Segundo is crazy and just randomly stated this.

Chp.10
“That’s what they’re all like, crazy from birth.” (pg. 198)
--- It is the true meaning of the Buendias and most of the town of Macondo. Nobody is truly sane and all together there as a group of people.

"Let's hope that he becomes a priest so that God will finally come into this house." (pg.185)
--- Ursula thinks that there is a curse that is haunting her family. Nothing is making sense and she wants it all to stop and be normal again between them and have no interfers with anybody else.

Aurelino was captured and brought into Macondo to receive the death penalty. He talks with his mother Ursula and how the gun she was providing might help for a good escape out. However, the gun does no good and the town rebels for him and all of the court hearings he will have. And people were afraid to kill him because it then would leave them having the same sort of death as they had given him. When it's time for the execution for Aureliano, Jose Arcadio intervenes and the army and Aureliano flees. One day later, Jose Arcadio is shot down and killed in his room. Aureliano Segundo and Jose Arcadio Segundo, the twins of Sofia and Arcadio, are born. Amaranta, then was falling in love with Colonel Gerineldo Marquez. But she refused to be with him, no matter how many times he would ask. When Jose Arcadio Buendia finally died, there was yellow flowers falling from the sky.
Chp.8
This chapter starts off with Amaranta and Aureliano falling for each other and they play games to keep it going longer. However, it only leads them to want each other more and more and never really solves the issues. Almost kissing him made Amaranta stop and realize the fun of lust is getting outta hand. IT HAD TO BE STOPPED! Aureliano, during this time, was fighting different battles, but never gave any real reasons for doing them. Aureliano Jose went with him and soon after realized he needed to go back to his family and deserted Aurelino. He would take different girls to Pilar's house to sleep with them. And one day when Pilar woke up , she told him not to leave the house because she knew something bad was going to happen to him. A man of the conservative army shot him. But Pilar knew that if he wouldn't have gone he would have lived and eventually married the woman who was waiting for him.
Chp.9

Active Reading--- Week 1 Themes

Themes Chp.1-6
Chp.1
Solitude---With the big imagination and capability for things to change at such a fast pace sometimes, he begins to live in his mind. Everything is depending upon how he wants it and chooses not to let others into it. Everything has to be separated and it is only pulling them further apart later.

Time--- The Buendias everything is put in the past and how things used to function as a whole. Nothing seems to be relevant to the period they are experiencing now in life.

Discovery--- This is the chapter when we find out that Macondo was created and how they found it.

Chp.2
INCEST!---This is soo nasty how they all sleep together and the only one that worries is Ursula. I wonder about people like that!

And then there is the female issue dealing with all the babies!

Chp.3
Bible References--- The plagues are mentioned and how Exodus comes into play here. And through this it helps to show the way that things are supposed to be done in life, which could be the revealing of secrets.

Chp.4
Such contradictions are seen in this chapter...
Death--- Melquides finally passes on and goes to be dead for real this time and is the first person in Macondo to do so. And it happens with the relationships of others.

Love---Rebeca and Pierto; Remedios and Aurelino

Chp.5
Same as Chp. 4

Chp.6
War--- Aurelino leaves to defend his beliefs and all that he wants to deep dear.

Change of Attitude---Aurelino is back to his old ways of never talking to anyone anymore and being to himself. Everyone is realizing how life is and they are beginning to change things little by little.

Active Reading---Week 1 Quotes

Quotes Chp. 1-6

Chapter 1

"The earth is round, like an orange"---I think that this one is important to have because it shows just how far behind they are from the rest of the world. It also shows what kind of improvements they need to make as a society.

"If you have to go crazy, please go crazy all by yourself!...But don't try to put your gypsy ideas into the heads of the children."---They are trying to preserve what little bit they have left of each of their children. It is as of they are trying to shelter them and hide them away from the real dangers of life. Insanity or being a sinner is not what Ursula and the children need in life.

Chapter 2

".....he made his way through the crowd up to the first row, where the gypsy girl was, and he stopped behind her."---He was getting desperate and saw something that he knew he could have and pray on for a while. Nothing was truly stopping him or in his way for anything. And even if the little girl didn't want it, it wouldn't bother him in the least bit.

"She thought that his disproportionate size was something as unnatural as her cousin's tail"--- Having a son that is extremely large in some areas worries her for what incest may have caused. Ursula never wanted it to work out that way and cause as many problems as it once may cause.

Chapter 3

"I'm thinking about Prudencio Aguilar again."---This is the point that all his past catches up with him and becomes one with him. It just doesn't make sense to fit into his lifestyle of living.

"The word of your enemy."--- All the rules given and possibly begin followed doesn't mean that he likes him now. They will always be enemies and fight till the day he dies even if others doubt. it.

Chapter 4

"I've come to sleep with you."--- This quotes amuses me and makes me giggly like a little kid. I seriously can't figure out how sick one guy can be to say such a thing as this about a girl. It just shows the craziness and the magical realism behind the book.

"Rebeca waited for her love at four in the afternoon"--- Everything that she lives for in life is out of her reach now. All she wants is to see her only love and if that meant for her to sit by the window she would. Love is something that takes time to develop and when you find it, it sometimes is hard to let go.

Chapter 5

"You are a woman little sister."--- She is not as big as she once though herself to be. Her life is falling all down around her and she can't stop it for anyone.

Chapter 6

"Go to hell, friend."---I have no reasoning besides it just sounded sooo something we would all tell each other joking around. I like to hear such insults I can try out on others!

Active Reading--- Week 1 Summaries

Summary Chp. 1-6
Chp.1&2
The first chapter starts off with a reminisce about how Macondo was built and all the things that have impacted it recently. Then it goes on to introduce Melaquiades, a gypsy, who brought all these new inventions for the town people to check out. The inventions lead Jose Acardio Buendia to begin to fumble and always be interested in them and not his wife. Ursula is then brought into the novel and we find out later that she is not only his wife but also his cousin. She holds the quality of begin level headed and able to not be swayed on her opinion. The chapter goes on to explain how JAB is constantly working on his new inventions and trying to do something different and make a thing like the gypsies had. His most valued thing to do is to make art out of gold and many other metals. Unfortunately the author has to go and bust the town people's bubble by informing them the world is however round and not as they have been taught for their life. Melquiades stands up for JAB up when he discovers the notion has been previously proved and they should be happy to have someone like him around. This takes him back to the making of Macondo and how since he has formed the town no one has ever passed away. On a family outing, he takes his kids to a gypsy fair where they see ice for the first time. He then is informed that Melquiades is dead and not going to ever come around again.
In chapter two, Garcia Marquez takes us back to when the couple first began dating and seeing each other. Ursula was hesitant at first but began to see that it would be okay for both of them to be together. However, they do not get their relationship consummated until a year or so after they are wed. Days later the town is making fun and joking about JAB and it happens to be his rival that goes along with them and it makes JAB go insane. He goes and kills Aguilar with a stick and the ghost haunts him until he can't take it no more. This makes him want to move out of the place he was and make a new life for him without the ghosts. Little did they know it would lead them to the place where they are now and would have their first son, Jose Arcadio. The chapter later distinguishes more differences between Aureliano, the second son, and Jose Aradio such as their interests in alchemy. The oldest son is messing around with Pilar and gets her pregnant and realizes that he can't handle it so he runs away with a gypsy girl. Ursula leaves town in search of Jose Arcadio but does not find him instead she discovers a town her husband could not find.

Chp. 3and 4 and 5
After Ursula finds the new civilization route, Macondo becomes filled up with new visitors and people from all over. JAB gets his spot back and the city is coming along great and so is his family with Pilar. A distant cousin of the Buendias, Rebeca comes to town and gives the whole town insomnia and they must break her of it. Everything works out for the good for Rebeca and the Buendias and allow for her to have their last name. Melquides comes back from the dead and gives them the cure they have been in need of for a long time. Mature at this time, Aureliano remains solitary and without the world, not wanting to get involved with many women. Ursula recognizes the house they live in is too small and decides to get a mansion built. A man called Don Apolinar Moscote comes out of nowhere and wants the family to make their house blue and no questions asked about it. He gets ran out of town by the father JAB and Ursula is happy. Aureliano becomes attracted to one of the guy's 9 year old daughters and begin upset sleeps with Pilar. Aramanta and Rebeca become interested in the same guy, Pierto Crespi. Melquides dies for a second time and they bury him as the first one in the town of Macondo to be dead. The father is tied to a tree and left there with nothing but a shelter because of his experiences with burning down a house and ruining a lab.
Remedios is told what puberty means and shortly after experiences it for the first time which then in turn will allow for her and Aureliano to get married. She ends up surpassing everyones thoughts of her and what she might be for their son. Instead she is mature and very responsible and mostly cares for JAB under the tree. Remedios is always trying to solve fights between Aramanta and Rebeca while caring for a son that is not even her own. Rebeca's wedding to Pierto Crespi is put off for who knows how long because of his mother's illness that has suddenly come upon her. It is soooooooooo wrong though and Aramants is to blame. Remedios later dies from stomach problems and they find out that it is also holding twins inside. Everyone goes into mourning and once again puts off the wedding for Rebeca. The mourning and delay are ended by the return of José Arcadio, the oldest son of José Arcadio Buendía. He is enormously strong, tattooed all over his body, impulsive, and crude almost animal like, which is something his mother once feared. The only reason he has come back is because he wants all the woman to come to him and use his sexual organs however they may want and he will enjoy it all. An affair with Rebeca and soon after married leaves his mother in disgust and total hatred to see them. That leaves Aramanta to have her lusting after guy and they start to go out together. After the death of his wife, Aurelino is back to solitude and playing games with her father and hears the new fights of politics and once again sides on the Liberals. Later on in life he is known as the leader and first captian of the liberal party.
Chapter 6
Aurelino goes to war on behalf of the Liberal party. Over a period of time, things grew for him and people began to not bother with him unless it was to show respect. When he left for war, Acardio was put into charge and a street was named after Aurelino in Macondo. While Acardio was in charge, all he did was harm and disrespect people, even Ursula. Ursula saves the day for Don Apolinar and the other prisoners there from his rule. JAB still tied underneath the tree is visted by his wife who takes better care of the town then Acardio. Aramants denies the marraige and causes him to become sudcidial. Finally Jose has three kids and then dies by the enemy army.

Reflective Journal #1 and #2

March 5, 2007
Well I am totally thinking that it is unique how you can combine so many different things such as English class and technology together. And even though I hate doing projects that consist of reading this much, this could be a good experience for me. However I think that not everyone feels the same way.

KUDOS TO YOU MS.BROWN!

One Hundred Years of Solitude seems very confusing at first!! I loved reading Song of Solomon and right now I can't really get into this book. Hopefully with time each of us will begin to understand the meaning behind flipping through thousands of different scenes consecutively. Part of the problem begins with the characters sharing the same name and not truly allowing for us to know the difference right away.

PLEASE PROMISE ME IT WILL GET BETTER THAN IT IS NOW!!!!!!!!!

March 13, 2007

It has been about two weeks since we have started One Hundred Years of Solitude and things are slowly getting better. I am beginning to realize that this book will stay weird, but at least some of the past reading will finally come together. Even a movie might have helped the situation out a little bit more, but since we dont got any of that to work with then AP English third period will suffer a little bit longer.

And just as a thing to put out there...WHY CAN'T SOMEONE TAKE THE TIME TO REWRITE THE BOOK WITH SOME CHAPTER NUMBERS FOR ME TO FOLLOW? It all doesn't help our issue if we have to go and thumb through it all for the flipping page numbers in the right chapter.

March 19, 2007

I feel like I haven't made any progress in the project or the book. Nothing seems to be moving closer to the end of the project for us. But at least our load is lightened a little for the March 30'th date with the help of April 4th Scholar section.

Why do they treat the founder of Macondo like that? He made it the way that it is and had everything perfectly formed. Being tied to a tree and left there without any help of needs. He must be a stinky fella! Everyone is so incestful and messing around with cousins and aunts and uncles...EWWWWYYY!!! I mean I know that there are not many different people in Macondo that are not related, but incest is so not right. But anywho.........I think that it will a good book in the end even if it is a little confusing with all the characters andplaces being intertwined.

Thank God that we have progressed in our ways from the time of Macondo till now and our life.
